Carneros Chardonnay, 2011
Chandon is best known as one of America’s top sparkling wines. Less known is Domaine Chandon also produces limited quantities of varietal wines from our estate vineyards. These wines are crafted by drawing on experience with traditional Champagne varietals and by showcasing select parcels from our Carneros ranch, where Chandon was among the pioneering growers and vintners of the region.
The 2011 vintage was ideal for Chardonnay. The cool temperatures offered a long-time hang time, allowing the grapes to reach optimum ripeness while retaining acidity. The yields were lower with small berries that had intense fruit flavor.
The 2011 Chardonnay offers floral aromas with honeysuckle and wisteria highlights punctuated by the essence of fresh lemon zest. The palate is crisp with a refined richness that displays apricot and nectarine flavors, well-integrated oak and perfectly balanced acidity.
Melon with prosciutto, pasta dishes with ricotta salata or marinated fennel salads will all be delicious with this Chardonnay. Equally at place on the same table would be roasted chicken with an herb sauce or pasta with clams.
